This is a photo blog of self expression. All the images I post are self assignments driven by the need for more creativity in my life. This is my escape from the everyday shooting as a professional photographer.

Teaching Breaststroke at the University of Tennessee
Breaststroker Brad Craig is surrounded by swimmers' legs at UT. Repeated shapes of legs and lane rope with the effect of a long lens (200mm) compacting information (lane ropes in background seem to be very close together) helps to make an interesting image.

Swim Photo Stops action
What I like about sports photography is you capture something not seen normally as you watch. In this image high shutter speed stopped the action to reveal a roaring moment.

The Sky Tonight Was Beautiful
Being outside with a camera on a night like tonight is wonderful. I watched the sky for about about 2 hours and kept shooting this light and cloud show. 80 mm lens white balance set for daylight.

View From Maryville College Bridge
I used a tripod on this one. It was a 3 second exposure which recorded the taillights and headlights of traffic on Lamar Alexander Parkway. The long exposure captured the light trails while leaving the cars invisible. The camera's white balance was set on tungsten and the ISO was 200.
Maryville College Walking Bridge in the Moon Light
In the fall of last year I took my photography class on a field trip through Maryville. This image was made on the Maryville College Bridge over Lamar Alexander Parkway. I used a tripod with a 15 second exposure which gave me enough time to paint the bridge with a flash light. I set the camera at ISO 200 and used the tungsten setting for white balance.

More Ice in Maryville
With tripod umbrella I shot this image with the camera set on f-22 at 30 sec. at ISO 100. I used a flash light to paint light on the ice coated limbs closest to the camera.
Ice Rains Down on Maryville
I shot some ice covered trees tonight lit by the street lights of Maryville College.I mounted my camera to a tripod and used an umbrella to stay dry. I set my white balance using a white sheet of paper. My camera was set on manual. Exposure information - f-9 shutter speed 10 sec. 100 ISO. The circle shaped lens flare in the upper right hand corner was caused by rain drops on the front of the lens (a happy accident).
